Tips to Help Keep Your New Year’s Resolution

Tips to Help Keep Your New Year’s Resolution

New Year’s resolutions are a great way to start the year off on the right foot and make positive changes in your life. But let’s face it, most of us have trouble sticking to our resolutions. In fact, studies have shown that less than 25% of people actually keep them throughout the year. So, how can you improve your chances of success? Here are some tips to help you keep your New Year’s resolutions:

Be Specific

When setting your resolution, be as specific as possible. Vague resolutions like “I want to lose weight” or “be more organized” are difficult to measure and can be easy to give up on. Instead, make specific, actionable goals. For example, instead of saying “lose weight,” set a goal to lose a certain number of pounds or inches. Instead of saying “be more organized,” set a goal to declutter a certain area of your home or to schedule a certain amount of time each week for organizing. The more specific you are, the more likely you are to achieve your goal.

Make a Plan

Once you have set a specific goal, it’s important to make a plan to achieve it. This might involve setting smaller goals along the way, creating a schedule, setting reminders, finding resources or tools to help you stay on track, and identifying potential obstacles and how to overcome them. Often times, even something as simple as putting your resolution in writing and keeping it somewhere where you can see it every day can help you stay accountable. Having a plan in place can help keep you focused and motivated towards your goals.

Be Realistic

While it’s important to challenge yourself, setting unrealistic goals can set you up for failure. Instead, start small and focus on making manageable changes. Be honest with yourself about what you can realistically achieve and adjust your goals accordingly. For example, if you’re not a morning person, don’t set a goal to wake up at 5am every day to work out. Instead, find a time of day that works best for you and stick to that schedule.

Create a Support System

Another way to stay on track with your resolutions is to find a support system. This could be friends or family members who can provide encouragement and accountability, or a community group or online forum where you can share your progress and get advice from others. Having a supportive network can make it easier to stay motivated and overcome obstacles along the way.

Celebrate your Successes

It’s okay to slip up or have setbacks throughout this process. Don’t let one setback derail your entire resolution. Instead, refocus and get back on track and celebrate the successes you have as you make progress. This can help keep you motivated and stay focused on your ultimate goal.

Overall, the key to keeping your new year’s resolutions is to start small, be specific, and make a plan. By taking these steps, you can increase your chances of success and make positive changes in your life.
