Fall is a busy time for many people and it can often pass by in the blink of an eye. However, with its perfect temperatures, gorgeous colours and abundant recreational opportunities, we encourage you to make the most of the season. Celebrate and make the most of fall with these fun activities and popular destinations near our communities in Keswick (Georgina), Chippawa (Niagara), Angus, Bowmanville and Oshawa.

Take Advantage of Outdoor Recreational Opportunities

Fall is a great time to get out and enjoy the beautiful outdoors, without worrying about the extreme heat that can come with summer. As a bonus, you’ll get to see and appreciate the beautiful colours of the red, orange and yellow changing leaves. Explore the wonders of nature and get outside!

Some recreational opportunities that are perfect for the entire family in the cooler fall months include:

  • Biking
  • Hiking
  • Water sports, including fishing, canoeing and kayaking
  • Camping
  • Scavenger hunts (great for kids!)
  • Frisbee, touch football, pinecone collecting and jumping in leaf piles!

Another great option is to visit your community’s park to make new friends and meet your neighbours. It’s a chance for your kids to find new playmates and for you to get to know the familiar faces of your community.

Head to a Local Farm

There are so many amazing farms in Southern Ontario that make celebrating fall fun! Take a hay ride, pick the perfect pumpkin for your jack-o’-lantern, enjoy the bounties of the harvest season, find delicious treats and fun decorations for Thanksgiving and Halloween, or get lost in a corn maze. There’s something for every member of the family to enjoy.

Some great options include Pingle’s Farm Market near Oshawa, Howells Family Pumpkin Farm in Niagara, Chappell Farms in Barrie, Watson Farms in Bowmanville and Homestead Orchards in Georgina, near Keswick.

Local farmers’ markets also have tons of delicious fall harvest crops, including apples, beets, carrots, cucumbers, pumpkins, squash and more. Head to your local farmers’ market and challenge yourself to try a new fall recipe. Yum!
